Perhaps the major lessons learnt from NCRI's experience in disseminating soybean technology using the participatory approach is the fact that empowering farmers to air their views, recognizing their aspirations, skills and knowledge and harnessing all these represent the best hope for enhancing technology adoption; and that the active participation of the traditional chieftaincy institution provides adequate motivation and back-up support for the success and continuity of project activities. The end-user participatory approach of technology transfer stems the tendency of forcing the pace of development beyond what is sustainable and above the resource base of the farmers. It is therefore undoubtedly a useful strategy for developing appropriate agricultural technologies for the farmers by the farmers in Nigeria.
