Co-Cu-ZnO nanowires/tubes having different composition and morphology have been prepared by pulse electrodeposition. Different on-times resulted in different morphology (wire and tube) and, bulk and surface composition. One of the Co-Cu-ZnO nanowire/tube catalysts was then tested as catalysts for CO hydrogenation reaction. It was observed that the selectivity toward methanol and higher alcohols increased with pressure. Methane and higher hydrocarbons selectivity increased when pressure was increased from 15 bar to 20 bar and then did not change thereafter. Nonetheless, selectivity toward CO2 decreased with increasing pressure. The catalyst showed no sign of deactivation even after 65 h. In fact, the methanol and higher alcohols selectivity increased significantly with pressure, while CO2 selectivity decreased a very important observation not reported by others for similar catalysts.
