Software tools for environmental restoration - the nuclear site end game

UKAEA is progressively delicensing areas of Harwell and Winfrith. To meet the regulatory requirement of demonstrating "no danger", an extensive programme is in place involving historical record review, and radiological and chemical surveys of buildings, drains and land. Consistency of approach and ease of data interpretation is an essential part of this programme and an electronic data capture, interrogation and reporting system coupled to a Geographic information System has therefore been developed to meet these needs. The bespoke package, called IMAGES -Information Management and Geographical Evaluation System - is discussed in this paper.
