Dr. James Staley has been instrumental in the development and use of Quench Factor Analysis (QFA) as a property prediction tool in the aluminum industry. However, until the present time, the actual utilization of this technology, other than as a research tool, has been rather limited. In this paper, the use of QFA as a quenchant qualification procedure is discussed. As a result of various work reported to date, it is recommended that QFA be used as part of an updated and improved specification qualification procedure.
