In the present study, a laser-beam welded Al-Li-Mg-Zr-Sc alloy and a friction stir welded Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy were investigated. Hardness measurements and tensile tests were used to determine mechanical properties. The microstructure was characterized in the weld and in the heat affected zone using optical and electron microscopy.
