As manufacturing is currently shifting from mass production to mass customisation, the next generation of manufacturing systems has to be able to satisfy rapidly and dynamically the new user needs while maintaining the competitiveness. The resulting architectures should be therefore a compromise between the conventional hierarchical architectures, inherently integrated, and the new distributed architectures, more agile, adaptable and robust. It means at the shop floor level, to develop innovative structures such as multi-agent ones to provide more decisional autonomy and Cooperation to the field devices to better master the dynamic of the system and to anticipate all its malfunctioning. So, this paper proposes an agent-oriented architecture for the proactive maintenance intelligent system (PMIS) of our laboratory platform supporting a level regulation loop. This experimental test bed development consists in formalising, prototyping and testing the functional, organisational and operational architectures of this intelligent system.
