Physical models are more and more frequently used for checking existing or planned smoke extraction systems. Methods used include real-scale smoke tests with paraffin-water mixtures - with or without additional gas heating - as well as small-scale tests using light gas, paraffin-water mixtures or a little pool fire. The announced contribution discusses the consequences when neglecting some physical phenomena in comparison to "the real fire". It gives rules for the transfer of results and makes suggests for the implementation of these tests.
