摘要

Nanotube research has developed rapidly over the last decade, following the bulk production of C_(60) and structural identification of carbon nanotubes. This account summarises the most recent achievements in nanotube and nanofibre production, including various routes to filamentous carbon and other layered materials consisting of B_xC_xN_z as well as WS_2 and MoS_2. The synthesis of these novel structures is paving the way to nanoscale technology and promise to provide a wide spectrum of applications.
