US EPA addresses flame retardants through various statutory authorities,including the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA),Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA),and Clean Air Act.Work has focused on the brominated flame retardants polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs),several of which have been detected in humans,fish,and elsewhere in the aquatic environment as part of environmental monitoring programs in Europe,Asia,North America,and the Arctic.
