Characterization of Inclusions Distribution in Cast Steel

It has been proved that as the melt interface advances during solidification, insoluble particles in front of the interface are either pushed, or engulfed or pushed to some distance and then engulfed. In the present investigation behaviour of insoluble exogenous and endogenous inclusions in steel melts have been studied. For a given particle size the interface velocity at which the transition from pushing to engulfment takes place is known as critical velocity. For calculation of critical velocity for a system several models are available. The paper identifies some of the common inclusions occurring in steel and critical velocity for the relations in these models.
