Determination and detection of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium or copper is a continuing research interest due to the toxicity of these metals which can produce undesirable effects even at extremely low concentrations, and adversely affect almost all ecological systems. They are the most insidious pollutants because of their highly recalcitrant nature.
