Meeting the standard - engineering acceptance

This paper gives an overview of Railtrack S&SD Engineering Acceptance process, some of its key elements, and the responsibilities of manufacturers and train operators. U.K. law requires Railtrack as the infrastructure controller to have standards, which set the minimum safety requirements of trains. [1] These standards, known as Railway Group Standards, were initially based on previous British Rail Standards, but have been developed to have a scope limited to the safety of the railway system, and it's safe inter-working. Railtrack is responsible for ensuring that the operation of trains does not bring undue risk, and Railway Group Standards lay out the minimum requirements for vehicles so that they will not cause harm to the public, passenger or staff of any railway operator.
