DEVELOPMENTS IN AGRICULTURE AND THE LOSS OF NATURAL STORMWATER RUNOFF CONTROL IN CENTRAL EUROPE

It is likely that postwar developments in land use and agriculture in Germany have led to the increased formation of surface runoff and peak river discharge in wet periods. It is also likely that such developments in Poland so far have not taken place. However, if Poland starts intensifying its agriculture in the same way this was done in Germany, it may experience the same environmental problems that Germany is facing. This may be true also for other Central European countries.
