IMPORTANCE OF FIBER DIGESTIBILITY FOR ESTIMATING ENERGY CONTENT OF FORAGES

Measuring digestible fiber (dNDF) then used calculating total digestible nutrients (TDN) is a much better estimate of energy content of the forage than acid detergent fiber. Digestible NDF can be measured two ways (by measuring lignin and NDF-crude protein or by in vitro measurement). We believe the measuring dNDF by in vitro digestion is much more indicative of animal performance.
