摘要

Fiber reinforced composites based on thermosetting polymeric resin present many benefits over other traditional materials as they exhibit optimal mechanical properties with light weight and low price. Unsaturated polyester (UP) is an easy to process thermoset widely used as a matrix for fiber-reinforced composites owing to its excellent mechanical properties, good moisture resistance and wettability. However, it is highly flammable and also generates large amount of heavy and flammable smoke during burning. This aspect certainly narrows its application in areas where fire safety is an important issue.
