Salicylic acid is a drug in many medications and prescription drugs. There is need for the treatment of poisoning cases as well as pharmaceutical waste water. Chitosan (CS) is a multifunctional polymer that has primary and secondary hydroxyl groups as well as a highly reactive amino group. The chemical modification of chitosan has also been carried out to make chitosan meet some purposes. β-cyclodextrins (β-CDs) and their derivatives as host compounds have been widely used in food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries, etc. Our interest is focused on the preparation of new chitosan grafted with β-CDs and its adsorption for salicyclic acid. This new chitosan grafted with β-CDs has been prepared and analyzed by IR and X-ray. The influences of initial concentration, adsorption time, pH and ion strength on the adsorption of salicyclic acid were investigated.
