Simultaneous two-photon absorption is a process in which the probability of a ground to excited state transition scales quadratically with incident intensity of the irradiation sources.This nonlinear or quadratic dependence makes two-photon excitation particularly attractive for use in a number of emerging technologies,including two-photon fluorescence imaging,three-dimensional microfabrication,and optical power limiting.
