Flame retardancy functionality can be generated through many different molecules involving organic and inorganic components. This presents a considerable challenge to evaluate the relative environmental impacts of these compounds. In this talk we will focus on two representative flame retardants that involve bromine and phosphorous, Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA ) C15H12Br4O2 CAS 79- 94-7, and DOPO, C12H9O2P, CAS 35948-25-5, and specifically on the life cycle energy associated with the manufacturing supply chain.
