Fundamentals of Guest Encapsulation in Polymeric Supramolecular Assemblies

Non-covalent encapsulation of lipophilic guest molecules has been of great interest, because of the potential utility of polymeric supramolecular assemblies in applications such as drug delivery. However, little is known about the structural factors that control the encapsulation and the stability of encapsulation. We will provide an important variation in the definition of stability of encapsulation in supramolecular assemblies. We will also provide a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) that allows for analyzing the encapsulation stability. We will present this work in the context of a new class of polymeric nanogels that we have developed recently.
