ZSM-5 is a Silicalite zeolite that has been widely used in various applications such as molecular sieves, catalyst in Fluidized Catalyst Cracking (FCC), etc. due to its excellent properties including shape-selectivity, surface acidity, well-ordered pore network, high thermal stability, cation-exchanged availability. Moreover, ZSM-5 itself can also be used as a catalyst support. However, ZSM-5 is considered a microporous material with a pore diameter in the range of 0.54-0.56 nm which could affect the catalytic performance due to a mass transfer limitation. Polybenzoxazine is a novel type of phenolic resin that offers many excellent advantages such as no need of harsh catalyst, molecular design flexibility, facile synthesis method, etc. In order to prepare mesoporous ZSM-5 nanoparticles, nanoporous carbon derived from polybenzoxazine was used as a template confinement via sol-gel process and microwave irradiation.
