As an environmental friendly, efficient, and economic technology to modify polymer surface, UV irradiation technique has become a popular topic since 1950s. However, higher homopolymerization rate of monomers is a big challenge for this application. New methods have been proposed to overcome this issue in recently years. For example, Ma. etc. proposed the sequential method. In their method, initiators were fixed on the surface by covalently coupling benzopinacol under UV irradiation. However, very high energy is needed to break the covalent bond between benzopinacol and polymer surface in the second step. There are also synergist immobilization photo- polymerization method.
