There are several practical applications for coatings exhibiting low surface energy such as fouling release coatings self cleaning and coatings with low surface adhesion. This can be achieved by several methods such as choice of chemistry for the polymer, backbone functionalization and the use of additives among others. UV-curable coatings are being used in numerous applications such for electronic packaging, food packaging, paper coatings, etc. These coatings are solvent free and can be crosslinked within a few minutes. Herein, we report the preliminary results on the study of the effect of PDMS functionalization on the surface properties of UV-curable coatings. For this work, a monohydroxy, a telechelic, and a dihydroxy terminated PDMS were used for unsaturated polyester synthesis, which were then UV-cured with triethyleneglycol divinylether as the reactive diluent.
