Metrology is an activity that, in different ways, underpins many industrial, social and economical activities. Therefore, adequate infrastructure in this field must be provided by countries to their productive plant and users of society, in order to be competitive. Equally important to the availability of infrastructure, is the culture, knowledge and elements for selection and effective use of metrological tools among the user sectors. One of the main problems faced by countries that only recently have established their metrological systems, is the lack of information and the poor metrological culture in general. To provide further support to the metrological system in Mexico, a network of integral metrological service suppliers has been launched by CENAM in 1999, called Red MESURA Interinstitucional (RMI). As part of this strategy, an Information System of Metrological Services (SIMET) has been established. SIMET is based in Internet and has different possible levels of accessibility, from public users to members of the Network.
