A model based on a static Jahn-Teller distortion of C{sub}60 is shown to explain the experimentally observed g values of C{sub}60{sup}-.The results of t{sub}(1u) direct × h{sub}g coupling in which the distortion axis can be in any direction are recounted. This static Jahn-Teller coupling explains the axial g tensors that are observed. The more common isotropic g tensors are explained in terms of a collection of individual statically distorted C{sub}60 molecules in which the distortion axes are randomly distributed relative to the applied magnetic field axis.
