Aluminium powder (< 50μm) was mixed with 5% of Intermetallics powders (< 100μm) using an attritor mill equipment. After mechanical alloying, these powders were die pressed at 300MPa into cylinders with a green density of 2.52-2.56 g/cm{sup}3, following by their lubrication and hot extrusion at 500°C into 10 mm diameter bars (extrusion rate 5:2). Also aluminium powder were processed by this way and Al-extruded bars were obtained in order to evaluate the intermetallic influence on aluminium properties. Extruded samples of aluminium with intermetallic addition reached a density of 2.75-2.78 g/cm{sup}3, a hardness of 32 - 36 HRE and 34 - 39 HRE on Al + 5%Nb{sub}3Al and Al + 5%NbAl{sub}3 materials respectively and their conductivity were only slightly lower than on extruded aluminium. Also dilatation coefficient was determined on machined bars of 3.5 mm of diameter. Microstructure were studied not only by the point of intermetallic size and distribution, but the diffusion of Nb into the aluminium matrix through SEM analysis, and micro hardness using 0.25N load.
