Resin composite restorative materials have been widely used for both anterior and posterior restorations. Besides the use as direct restorative system, indirect system, which require laboratory fabrication, are also widely used by clinicians. The reasons for this popularity are due to the clinical advantages of laboratory cured resin composite including esthetics, excellent physical and mechanical properties, and ease of handling. Wear resistance is an important prerequisite when restorative materials are used for occlusal surfaces as a direct "filling", an inlay/onlay or a crown veneer. However, the surface deterioration by occlusal stresses is one of the most serious problems leading to restoration failure. Therefore, the appropriate selection of material for posterior teeth is a matter of great concern for clinicians. Some of resin composite products claim to possess similar wear resistance with metal alloys and/or ceramics. However, these claims are often substantiated in the literature. Therefore, it is important to investigate the relative resistance to wear of these current resin composite materials as compared to conventional restorative materials.
