In this paper the first year results of the MSU Meteorological Observatory -Zvenigorod biostation experiment (MSU-MOZE) are discussed. Peculiar features of solar radiation observed in 1999 as compared with long-term radiative measurements at the MSU Meteorological Observatory (MO) are described. The description of the types of radiation measurements, which are being carried out simultaneously at both sites in Zvenigorod and Moscow, and first preliminary comparisons between similar measurements are also discussed. A simple method is proposed to calculate the transmittance of solar irradiance under the forest canopy at Zvenigorod vegetation research plots. We also describe the phenological expressions of several plants in response to the high solar irradiance dozes observed at Zvenigorod in 1999.
