The JAK/STAT signaling pathway

Signal transduction from cytokine receptors involves multiple pathways, of which the JAK/STAT pathways have been shown to be critical for many specific cellular responses within the hematopoietic, immune and a variety of other cell systems. In this chapter, a concise overview is presented of the mode of action and biological significance of JAK/STAT signaling. In addition, some examples of human disease conditions are discussed which can be directly linked to perturbations within these pathways.
