THUNDER An Ultra-High Displacement Piezoelectric Actuator

THUNDER is an acronym for "THin layer composite UNimorph piezoelectric Driver an sEnsoR". It is a new ulrta-high displacement composite actuator developed at NASA Langley Research Center. THUNDER, significnatly improves State-of-the-art piezoelectric technology and provides inordinately large displacement. This paper discusses the material fabrication technology, the effects of processing and the initial trends that occur with several sets of wafers under varying conditions.
