摘要

An important role of Fe impurities on corrosion susceptibility of Mg alloys was recently demonstrated. The enhanced hydrogen evolution and the high corrosion rate of such materials were correlated to the possible electrochemical re-deposition of a thin iron film on the corroding magnesium surface [1]. Re-deposition accelerates cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction and becomes the determining process after an initial period. The revealed mechanistic details led to discovery of new strategies for active control of Mg corrosion rate. It was suggested that iron complexing agents can serve as efficient corrosion inhibitors for structural Mg-based materials [2].
