Continued safe operation of the BG Transco distribution system has depended on an ongoing policy to replace iron mains and services with polyethylene pipe. The success of this strategy has depended on sound specifications and the introduction and co-operation between suppliers, manufacturers and the customer have been crucial in delivering a high integrity and relatively trouble free polyethylene distribution system. This process is continuous and is reflected in the development and implementation of new technologies for relining mains and services. Two new relining systems will be described cross linked polyethylene for mains and flexible polyethylene pipe for services.
