The filled-soil pressure on a cut-and-cover tunnel is surveyed by means of centrifugal model tests. Two kinds of filled materials, sand soil and clay, are taken into account, and two types of filled-soil shapes (symmetric and asymmetric) are modeled. Based on the comparison of the earth pressure obtained from model tests with that from theoretical formulas, two random variables for uncertainties in the calculation model are put forward. Here one is for the filled-soil pressure on an arch and the other for the filled-soil pressure on a sidewall. Statistical characteristics of these two variables are also worked out. The result of this paper is useful in reliability-based modification to the code for the design of tunnels.
