Minerals, Silica and metals in the water is the major component of TDS (total dissolved solids) for a metal finishing operation. These contaminants can be removed on many applications using a new Technology. Electronic Water Purifier (EWP) for either improved compliance, decreased hydraulic loading on waste treat or spot free rinses. The EWP makes patented technology available to generate a DI quality water. The technology uses an activated carbon fiber fabric. These electrodes are electrically charged using a DC power supply and have different polarities. The minerals/metals in the water have polarity charges, which are attracted to the opposite polarity of the electrode, thus removing the minerals from the water. These minerals are deposited on the electrode creating the DI quality water. The contaminants during regeneration fall off the electrode at 10 times the original concentration and be recycled back to the plating bath. Cycle Testing data will be presented along with several case studies including a Chrome plating rinse bath application and how a zero discharge system was created. A list of other the heavy metals that can be removed will also be discussed.
