Thermophilic Biodesulfurization/Biorefining

The Gas Technology Institute is developing genetic tools for the expression of genes in thermophilic bacteria. These genetic tools will be of general use to the biotechnology industry. As an example of these techniques, GTI is developing thermophilic enzymes for the biorefining of petroleum. Since petroleum is often produced, transported, and processed at elevated temperatures thermophilic microorganisms/enzymes which can function at temperatures ranging from 60 to 100°C may be the most appropriate for biorefming or biodesulfurization commercial applications.
