The author's persistent challenges encountered during his electrochemical energy conversion industrial career include technical and research management knowledge expansion, and adaptation to change. Useful methods to overcome these challenges are briefly discussed and include pro-active learning and avoiding the loss of focus on long term career goals. Knowledge of intellectual property matters and interviewing skills are also mentioned as essential for an industrial career. Some of these topics are also shared by other career paths, such as research at universities or national laboratories, but are not similarly experienced either due to cultural or structural differences. More importantly, the author did not learn any of these topics, most of them considered soft skills, during his university student years.
