The structure of similarity design

Three categories of similarity are examined. Each assumes that designs can be compared according to features. First, a conventional tolerance structure is described which is based on the binary relation of pairwise shared features. Second, structures which include distinguishing features, the significance of features and associated measures of similarity are examined. Third, closure similarities across multiple features allow comparison between classes according to their relative positions in the partial order of classes.
