The definition, content and goal of fuzzy evolutionary neural network (FENN) theory are proposed and described in this paper. In which the basic ideas and realized methods of three branches: fuzzy evolutionary algorithm (FEA), FENN and evolutionary fuzzy system (EFS) are discussed. Firstly the approaches to initial selection and self-adaptation of control parameters and evaluation means for FEA are put forwarded. Then the approaches to automatic design, fuzzy initialization and self-adaptive evolution of FENN parameters and evaluation of network model are researched for FENN. Finally the parameters optimization approaches to fuzzy system and fuzzy neural network based on FEA are researched in EFS.
