Application of an Analysis Methodology Using Recurrence Theory and Two Time Scales Approach to Speed Control of a Rectifier Fed Motor

In the synthesis of controllers for automatic systems including a power electronic converter as a power amplifier, generally we use models of average values. These models describe the global dynamic behavior of this type of systems but they are unable to predict abnormal behaviors such as subharmonic oscillations or chaotic motion. Recurrences method, which takes into account the discrete aspect of control by a power electronic converter, allows a thorough analysis but its application to complex systems is very difficult. An analysis methodology is developed on the basis of a mixing of both approaches. The application used for an illustration is the speed control of a rectifier fed DC motor. The simulation results are rigorous and confirm the validity of the proposed method.
