Propagation of polarized light in wurtzite-type semiconductive crystals possessing a zero birefringence (or isotroic) point is studied with the Jones Calculus methods. The crystla opticla phenomena in transparent and absorbing dichroic materials are considered. It is shown that the effect of the linear dichroism cannot be neglected at the isotropic point because it affects strongly the polarization of both the normal light waves and the transmitted light. A technique is sketeched which enables one the calculate the characteristics of the narrow-band optical filters based on the CdS crystals. The approach adopted in this work is compared with that of the coupled-wave theory.
