1997 Revisions to the Standard Form AIA Contract Documents and Their Impact Upon the Fabricator Structural Steel Industry

Two national organizations involved in the construction industry, the American Institute of Architects and the Associated General Contractors of America, have written standard form construction contract documents. These standard form documents often have significant impact on the legal rights of businesses engaged in the design, fabrication and erection of structural steel. The authors examine relevant provisions of these standard form contract documents which impact the fabricated structural steel industry. The authors also provide proposed alternative approaches which will more clearly define the interests of participants in the fabricated structural steel industry without providing an unfair advantage to other participants in the construction process.
