The lack of a unified position is preventing the Australian forest industry from promoting itself as part of the environmental solution to achieving sustainability in the new millennium. Entrenched public concepts on issues such as biodiversity, logging and old growth are distracting the industry from presenting to the public the real image and contribution it can make toward sustainable sue of natural products and solving problems such as the buildup of greenhouse gases and soil salinity.
