At the Australian Wool Research and Promotion Organisation's Annual General Meeting in Goulburn, New South Wales, on 30 November 1998, 'a motion of no confidence in the organisation' was passed. One of the consequences of this was the formation of the Australian Wool Industry Future Directions Taskforce (the taskforce) by the then Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Hon Mark Vale MP.
