Based on a commercially available FEM-code, a computer program has been developed which calculates the thermal and mechanical influence on the work piece in a transient way analogously to the real welding process. For a simple use of this system a shell for data input and output of the results was created, so that also skilled workers can handle this tool (cf. fig.1). It consists of some databases for material-properties, process-parameters and process-models. Up to now the user shell include the fem-simulation tools and the databases for the numerical calculation.
