摘要

To commercialize an iron bath smelting reduction process, minimizing the amounts of both coal used and CO_2 exhausted is one of the important research themes. Direct charge of coal into the smelter is thought to result in no use of volatile matter (VM) and even have bad effects. Fundamental studies were done to examine the conditions for effective use of VM by investigating the influences of reduction temperature and carbonizing conditions upon the pre-reduction of iron oxide with coal carbonization gas with and without the secondary pyrolysis of tar. The amounts of coal used and CO_2 exhausted for a total process composed of a pre-reduction furnace and an in-bath smelter were estimated from the present results and literatures on the basis of mass and energy balances.
