RELAP5-RT Upgrade to the Bohunice V2 Nuclear Power Plant Simulator

The Bohunice-V2 WER nuclear power plant simulator is currently operational with the CORYS EWEREST product. The simulator owners (VUJE) expressed an interest in utilizing the RELAP5-RT code to replace the NSSS and core modules due to their advanced capabilities and the fact that VUJE already had RELAP5 expertise in their organization. The U.S. DOE agreed to fund DS&S to provide this upgrade as part of the International Nuclear Safety Program. The paper is divided into the following parts: ? An overview of the Bohunice V2 simulator upgrade project, including the European Commission and U.S. DOE support. ? An overview of the RELAP5-RT product and the scope of the simulation for the Bohunice-V2 simulator. ? A brief discussion on the interface and communications between EWEREST and RELAP5-RT. ? A summary of the tests performed and problems encountered and the resolution of those problems. The project demonstrates the flexibility of RELAP5-RT and the ease of integration with a sophisticated simulator environment provided by CORYS. This project also demonstrates successful collaboration between various organizations, which include U.S. DOE, European. Commission, CORYS T.E.S.S, VUJE, PNNL, and DS&S.
