The anode-supported type cells with metallic interconnects and manifolds which can be operated at a reduced-temperature have been designed and manufactured. The electrochemical properties of the single-cells, single-cell stacks and three-cell stacks have been studied. The main results are as follows. (1) The single -cell manufactured by co-sintering of YSZ electrolyte and NiO-YSZ anode substrate with anode active layer showed high durability at 1023 K. (2) The cell-stack with the single-cell having high porosity of 48% in the anode substrate can be operated at high fuel utilization giving methane-to-electricity conversion efficiency of as high as more than 50% (HHV). (3) Degradation rates of the stacks caused by thermal cycles between room-temperature and 1023 K were found to be less than 1% / cycle.
