Soluble Fe(Ⅱ) is an important reductant in anoxic waters, due to fast redox kinetics of the Fe(Ⅱ)/Fe(Ⅲ) couple. However, its availability is limited in neutral and alkaline pH range by the solubility of FeS(s), Fe_3(PO_4)_2, FeCO_3(s) and other Fe(Ⅱ) rich minerals. We have studied the adsorption of Fe(Ⅱ) on a variety of mineral phases and its reactivity towards organic and inorganic compounds, with wet chemical techniques combined with atomic force microscopy (AFM).
