Use of 2,2,2-Trifluoroethanol as a Substrate and a Solvent in Electrochemical Oxidation

A variety of fluoro-containing compounds has been known to possess pharmaceutically important activities.Trifluoroacetaldehyde is one of the fluoro-sources for the synthesis of such compounds,and there have been two methods for the preparation of trifluoroacetaldehyde;(1) reduction of trifluoroacetic acid,esters,or anhydride by H_2 in the presence of Ru/Sn catalyst,and (2) fluorination of chloral with HF.
