Temperature excursions and non-uniformity of the temperature are the main concerns in any attempt to scale-up lithium-ion cells to the larger sizes desirable for high power applications such as electric vehicle (EV) propulsion systems.Basically, battery design requires a trade-off between the risk of overheating individual cells of relatively large sizes, and the cost of insulating or cooling a complex array of small cells [1-3].
