The isodityrosine-class natural products,such as K-13,vancomycin,OF-4949s,and piperazinomycin,are of interest from viewpoints of biological activities including antimicrobiral,antitumor,antifungal and antiviral activities.Among them,recent chemotherapy regards vancomycin as one of the most important antibiotics for its powerful suppression of MRSA.Structurally the peptide moiety of the isodityrosines are rigidly supported by the characteristic diaryl ether and/or diaryl bonds,which might biosynthetically be constructed by phenolic oxidation of the corresponding L-tyrosines.To accomplish total syntheses of these class natural products,we have developed biomimetic phenolic oxidation methodology by employing anodic oxidation or thallium (III) salt (ref.
